Holdenby House is certainly a venue with the wow factor! It’s a historic country house in a stunning area of Northamptonshire. When I first visited, the driveway was paved with glorious yellow daffodils, building the anticipation. I had already fallen in love and hadn’t set eyes on the magnificent house yet.
Holdenby House had teamed up with Indulgence. Following our success with editorial shoots at Primrose Hill and Aynhoe Park, Holdenby were keen to pursue this direction for new images. With such a striking venue, steeped in history, it was important to keep the look authentic.
As this shoot was part of a branding editorial for the venue, so a huge amount of inspiration was drawn from the interiors. We wanted to work with the luxurious aesthetic that the house oozes. We provided the team with the key words luxurious, couture, opulent, elegant, lavish and ethereal. Kerry Poulter was also on board to help bring the look together.
The ballroom was the key location for the shoot and the striking walls were the primary colour influence. With lavish golds incorporated throughout and soft greys introduced for the tablescape which allowed the colours to really shine.
Holdenby House has huge amounts of character both in the indoors and outside in the extensive grounds. I captured the elegant details within the house to show the historical side. We ensured that any pieces being brought in fitted within the overall aesthetic. With such a historical venue, the shoot had to be authentic and all elements were considered.
My favourite element of the shoot is the extravagant dessert table. So on trend currently and yet it remains authentic and makes you imagine what the banqueting dinners would have been like.
From the florist: “Lilac was in perfect season for this shoot as well as tree hydrangea which acted as a great filler. I wanted to use different textures so I incorporated begonia plants and wild foliage to add depth. For the pop of colour I used garden roses and all English blooms to ensure everything remained traditional but capture attention!”
Being able to photograph a model with a blossom tree has always been on the list! With the model wearing a blush pink gown by The Couture Gallery, it had a real Miss Dior look. Without question, my favourite shots of the day!

One of my business bucket list goals for 2017 was to be featured on Carmencita’s “best of” blog posts that they do every month. I was completely bowled over to see that they chose my favourite image, the blossom shot above, to be on their ‘best of 2017′ post! WOW! Click on the logo below to see this and the other inspiring photographers that I’m sitting alongside from across the world.
You & Your Wedding featured an exclusive of this editorial at Holdenby House in their March/April ’18 issue. The editor decided it was perfect for their Valentines issue and we couldn’t agree more!
I’m lucky enough to be gracing the online pages of Bridal Musings for the first time too, a blog I’ve admired for many years.
If you enjoyed this stately home setting, head over to see this real wedding at Aynhoe Park.
