Roadkill Couture, a taxidermy inspired wedding shoot for the alternative bride.

Roadkill Couture is a project that I have dreamed of shooting for a long time! Its marmite, so grab a cup of tea and stay with me…

The end of a year always brings equal measures of reflection and excitement for me. I love to look back at all of the amazing weddings and shoots I’ve been a part of. Setting new goals for the following year is also important for me. I feel it’s important to set goals (I never do resolutions!) but to set goals allows you to aim high and aspire to a challenge.

For 2014 I wanted to challenge myself to work on more styled shoots – I also wanted to aim for publications I hadn’t yet been featured on. One of which was Rock n Roll Bride. Several of my brides from this year are huge followers of Kat’s blog, as too am I. I love Kat’s approach to life – she’s a real go getter and the posts on her blog are so inspiring for brides. Even if you aren’t an alternative bride, there are still so many topics which you will find interesting.

I had seen Eaton Nott’s Roadkill Couture taxidermy used at Brides the Show several years ago. Back then it was on my bucket list of styled shoots! For me it was so important that the shoot was beautiful and unusual. I wanted the viewer to see a beautiful image before they saw the taxidermy.

It was important that the taxidermy theme wasn’t garish – after all, it was a bridal shoot.
Teaming up with Luella’s Boudoir in Wimbledon, I used designs by Rue de Seine, Gwendolynne and Kelsey Genna as I wanted the dresses to steer away from tradition too.

I’m totally bowled over that Kat featured this shoot on Rock n Roll Bride back in March – and this week has selected it as one of her favourite styled wedding shoots of the year!

This Roadkill Couture shoot did cause quite a stir on social media and the blogging world. I did receive several requests for the images to be used on other blogs. One of which was La Fiancée du Panda. It is a wedding and lifestyle blog run by Maëlis. She is super passionate about all things wedding related, and luckily for me – taxidermy!!

If you love an alternative wedding look you’re going to adore this Glitter inspired shoot.
